TitleLetter from Norman MacLeod, Science and Art Department, South Kensington, to The Secreatries, The Royal Society, Burlington House
Date28 March 1877
Description Concerning the letter from this Department of 20 March, he is directed by the Lords of the Committee of Council on Education to state that the personal payments from the Govenment Grant of £4000 for Scientific Research will be paid quarterly as already arranged, or monthly, if it should be preferred, on the requisition of the Royal Society.
Their Lordships have directed the non-personal payments to be made at once, and the receipt of the gentlemen to whom the payments are made, will be accepted as a sufficient voucher, without receipts for all the details of the expenditure. He is to request that the Society will be so good as to furnish the adresses, to which the orders are to be sent, and the Christian names of the gentlemen.
As the personal payments cannot be made in advance, the total amount expended out of the Vote for the year 1876-7 will thus be £2220-1-6, including £50 for clerical expenses and £45-1-6 for charges already incurred by the Royal Society for carying out the work.
The personal payments recommended by the Royal Society, which will become payable in 1877-8, amount to £1810, and he is to request that his Lords may be favoured with tecommendations as to the allociation of th remainder of the Vote of £4000.
