Matters discussed; 1. Minutes of the last meeting read and after correction confimed
2. Coral Reef Committee audited balance sheet, attached to minutes, presented and accepted
3. Discussion of letter from Mr Gardiner regarding publication of his own work at Funafuti; Profesor Sollas to exercise his discretion on the publication
4. Discussion of correspondence between the Council of the Royal Society and Trustees of the Australian Museum, and resolved ' that it is evident to this Committee that, although there is no doubt that Professor Sollas communicated the critical part of his instructions to the New South Wales Committee, a misunderstanding on the question of publication has occurred, and that, under the circumstances, the Committee begs leave to recommend to the Council to express regret at this misunderstanding, and further that the Council telegraph to withdraw opposition to the publication of the remaining reports of the Australian Museum. '
5. Dr Foster informed the Chairman of the resolution of the Government Grant Committee to endorse the Coral Reef Committee's recommendation that the balance it holds be approved for Professor David of Sydney's application for continuing the boring at Funafuti, and that £150 would be transmitted to Professor David
6. Passed resolution proposed by Sir A Geikie, seconded by Professor Judd, that ' this committee beg to bring before the Council the circumstance that, during his absence on the Expedition to Funafuti, Professor Sollas' salary in the Gelogical Survey was stopped and they would propose that the Council shoudl make some grant to compensate him for the considerable pecuniary loss which he has suffeed from undertaking the research. They would suggest that a sum of £100 shoudl be assigned to him fromt he Donations Fund. ' |
