The President moved, that as it was probable the Society would get Chelsey College, Mr Sutcliffe could receive ten pounds more, in consideration of 'his necessitous condition'.
Ordered that the Treasirer pay Mr Sutcliffe ten pounds 'upon his acquittance'.
Resolved that Dr Wilkins resignation of his pretentions to Chelsea College should be taken on the terms he insists on, that is Thirty pounds per year or 'something equivalent to it' during life, if better terms cannot be achieved.
Ordered that the people entrusted with the management of the business of Chelsea College continue and also take in the assistance of Mr Smith.
Voted, that at the first opportunity, 'Mr Hook be put to the scrutiny for a Curators place'.
Voted that Mr Hook shall receive eighty pounds (£80) per annum as Curator to the Society, by subscriptions of particular members of the Societey, or otherwise.
Ordered, that Mr Hook forthwith provides himself with a lodging in or near Gresham College.
Ordered that these Orders and Votes be kept secret till Sir John Cutler has established Mr Hook as Professor of the Histories of Trades.
Mr Palmer reported that Mr Ellis having been consulted concerning the Statutes of the Society, he had declared to himself and Dr Goddard that he highly approved of them and wished that all other laws might equal them in their qualifications. |
