Description ' The new Council met, present; Lord Brouncker, Bishop of Exeter, Mr Howard, Mr Aerskine, Sir Paul Neile, Sir John Lowther, Sir William Petty, Mr Slingsby, Mr Henshaw, Mr Palmer, Mr Abraham Hill, Mr Daniel Colwall, Dr Balle, Dr Croone, Mr Oldenburg

Sir John Lowther was sworn as a Member of the Council

The Treaurer, Mr Hill and both the Secretaries, Dr Wilkins and Mr Oldenburg, were sworn as such.

Dr Wilkins proposed Mr Hook as candidate for a Curator's place.

Voted, that Mr Hook be not examined as Curator.

Ordered, that Sir William Petty, Dr Wilkins and Mr Grant draw up a form concerning the name, time and subject of Mr Hook's Lecture, and show it to Sir John Cutler, the Founder thereof; to receive his thoughts upon it.

Ordered that Dr Wilkins produce the Catalogue of the entries of the Society's Register Books, as it was given in by Dr Merrett.

Voted that there be a Committee for improving the English language, and that they meet at Sir Peter Wyche's lodging in Gray's Inn, once or twice a month, and give an account of their proceedings to the Society when required.

The following persons, or any three or more of them, nominated to constitute this committee; Mr Aerskine [Erskine], Sir Robert Atkins, Mr Austin, Sir John Birkenhead, Dr Clark, Dr Croone, Mr Dridson, Mr Ellis, Mr Evelyn, Sir John Finch, Mr Godolphin, Mr Henshaw, Mr Hoskins, Mr Neile, Sir Thomas Nott, Mr Spratt, Mr Southwell, Sir Samuel Tuke, Mr Waller, Mr Williamson, Mr Matthew Wren.

Ordered, that this Committee at their first meeting choose a chairman out of their number.'
