DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Samuel Hunter Christie; John Frederic Daniell; Sir John William Lubbock; Dr. Gideon Algernon Mantell; William Haseldine Pepys; Reverend Baden Powell; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Charles Wheatstone; the President, Spencer Joshua Alwyn Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Reverend Baden Powell reported on behalf of the Microscope Committee, requesting to add three Fellows to their number, agreed. Reverend J. J. Ellis appointed to read the Fairchild Lecture. Committee of Chemistry recommended that a Royal Medal be awarded to John Frederic Daniell for his letters on electrolysis and paper on voltaic combinations, agreed. List of bills for printing, engraving and for other services, agreed to be paid. Appointment of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts.
