TitleMinutes of a meeting of Council of the Royal Society
Date23 June 1836
DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Davies Gilbert; Joseph Henry Green; Charles Konig; Herbert Mayo; Sir John Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from A. B. Granville and others, 18 June 1836, addressed to the Secretary, stating that they would not attend the Special Meeting of the Royal Society. Letter from Anthony Panizzi, British Museum, 17 June 1836, to the Secretaries, full text entered into the minutes: noting the agreement that he entered into in compiling the Library Catalogue and his exertions, but the late resolutions sent to him for work already in type, together with other alterations, make his work useless. Appeals to Council to withdraw the resolutions, stating that if there is any doubt about his work he will consent to having the whole case put before a competent judge. The Treasurer noted a claim of £3 made against the Society for sewer rates, ordered to be paid if the amount was found to be due. All books borrowed from the Library to be returned before 1 August and Mr. Roberton to report on borrowers not complying. Mr. Roberton to have leave of absence for the month of August, with no loans during that period.
