Commencing with a list of Council members present: John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Dr. Henry Holland; Charles Konig; William Lawrence; Herbert Mayo; Sir John Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Reverend William Whewell; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Treasurer reported a large abatement in the bill for coals in exchange for cash, £38 16s. authorised to be paid. Letters from John George Children, British Museum, 29 July and 1 August 1836, to Anthony Panizzi, with letters, Anthony Panizzi, British Museum,29 July and 2 August 1836, to J. G. Children, full text entered into the minutes: the forwarding of Council resolutions on the Library Catalogue, with continued complaints by Panizzi, including a narrative of calling upon Mr. Roberton with regard to the duplicate key to drawers containing manuscript slips of the catalogue. Resolution that in view of Panizzi's refusal to return catalogue revisions and the duplicate key, no additional correspondence should be entered into. Letter from Sir James South regarding the return of optical instruments borrowed by him from the Royal Society, Mr. Dollond to be asked to examine their state. Application from Mr. Frederick Waller on behalf of Sir Stephen Chapman, for copies of Philosophical Transactions from 1824, Council decline to depart from the rule on applications being made within five years. Letter from Sir Herbert Taylor, transmitting on behalf of His Majesty, models and papers relating to mining operations in Hungary. Letter from Lord Minto applying for an extension to his admission to the Fellowship, granted. Letter from Sir Charles Bell, requesting permission to take 1,000 impressions from the plates of his paper on the nerves, granted. Letter from Professor Tiedemann, also requesting impressions from plates, granted to the extent of 500 impressions. Committees appointed to consider papers on astronomy and animal physiology to be awarded Royal Medals. List of President, Officers and Members of Council for the ensuing year.
