DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Dr. John Bostock; William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Joseph Henry Green; Charles Konig; William Lawrence; John William Lubbock; William Haseldine Pepys; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; William Henry Fox Talbot; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Treasurer reported that he had written to the Speaker of the House of Commons, but had received no reply as yet. Mr. Few had drafted a form of declaratioin in lieu of the oath, full text entered into the minutes. Application from the Ecole des Mines at Paris for the first part of Philosophical Transactions for 1817 and the second part for 1824: the latter only in print and available, granted. Application for the Institution of Civil Engineers for Philosophical Transactions published after 1831; copies afer 1836 granted as the period when the Engineers commenced their own Transactions. Resolutions of the Donation Fund Committee: recommending that the £100 granted to Sir David Brewster for a heliostat to be constructed by Mr. Dollond to be used for a solar telescope and rock salt prism; the sum of £32 19s. 3d. already paid to Mr. Newman for the completion of the Royal Society's barometer be taken from the Donation Fund; and the Treasurer to invest the balance of any accrued funds in the purchase of stock. Mr. Lubbock requested an additional 100 copies of his last paper on Tides, granted.
