Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Rose Bradford (Secretary); Sir William Crookes (Foreign Secretary); Sir George Darwin; James Cossar Ewart; Sir David Gill; John Scott Haldane; Charles Thomas Heycock; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Horace Lamb; Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Hector Munro MacDonald; Dr Frederick Walker Mott; Charles Algernon Parsons; William Henry Perkin; Edward Bagnall Poulton; Lieutenant-Colonel David Prain; Sir Arthur W. Rücker; Sir James Stirling; Frederick Thomas Trouton; William Whitaker; the President, Sir Archibald Geikie, in the Chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed as correct.
2. Telegrams with congratulations on the centenary of Charles Darwin's birth read or expected from variety of international institutions. To be read at the Ordinary Meeting of the Society
3. Secretaries reported deaths of Wilfred Hudleston Hudleston, Sir George King, and Prof. Julius Thomsen (Foreign Member). Obituary notices appointed to Dr. Henry Woodward, Lieutenant-Colonel Prain, and Thomas Edward Thorpe respectively.
4. Report of the Biology Sectional Committee read. Entered into minutes. Recommendation approved and Edward Albert Schäfer appointed Croonian Lecturer.
5. Choice of Bakerian Lecture deferred.
6. Sum bequeathed by Henry Clifton Sorby to be received in March. Appointment of a Committee for representatives of Sheffield University as administrative scheme of the Trust to be deferred.
7. Letter regarding the will of Dr. George Gore, requesting a division of his estate's residue between the Royal Society and the Royal Institution for assistance in original scientific discovery. Resolved.
8. Treasurer's purchase of stock in Bristol Corporation on account of the Travelling Expenses Fund. Seal of Society affixed to transfer of stock.
9. New account at Lloyd's Bank for current expenses of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers 10. Arthur Schuster appointed representative of the Royal Society on the Council of the International Association of Academies.
11. Sir George Darwin appointed representative of the Royal Society at a Conference regarding Ordnance Survey Triangulation.
12. Nominations for Foreign Members considered.
13. Consideration of candidates for Fellowships adjourned to next meeting.
14. Application of the Challenger Society to hold meetings at the Royal Society's rooms granted.
15. Permission granted to Sir William Huggins to use illustrations from his papers in 'Philosophical Transactions' for reprints of his Collected Papers.
16. Permission granted to President of the Röntgen Society [W.D. Butcher] for illustrations of George William Kaye's paper on 'The Emission and Transmission of X-Rays'.
17. List of bills for payment for engravings and printing.
