Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Rose Bradford (Secretary); Sir William Crookes (Foreign Secretary); Sir George Darwin; James Cossar Ewart; Sir David Gill; John Scott Haldane; Charles Thomas Heycock; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Horace Lamb; Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Hector Munro MacDonald; Dr Frederick Walker Mott; Charles Algernon Parsons; William Henry Perkin; Edward Bagnall Poulton; Lieutenant-Colonel David Prain; Sir Arthur W. Rücker; Sir James Stirling; Frederick Thomas Trouton; William Whitaker; the President, Sir Archibald Geikie, in the Chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed as correct.
2. Secretaries reported death of Prof. David James Hamilton. Obituary notice appointed to John Theodore Cash.
3. List of Fellows recommended for election at the annual meeting on 6 May. List to be communicated to public press.
4. Appointment of a Committee of Officers of the Society, Sir Arthur Rücker, and Sir James Stirling, to confer with representatives of Sheffield University regarding the Trust created by Henry Clifton Sorby's will.
5. Extract of George Gore's will read. Text entered into minutes. Resolution confirmed. Treasurer to open a separate account in the Society's Trust Accounts.
6. Bertram Coghill Alan Windle appointed representative at the 75th Anniversary of the reconstitution of the University of Louvain.
7. Letter read from Lord Wemyss about nominations from learned and other societies of representatives in the House of Lords. Not taken further.
8. Report from the Soirée Committee entered into minutes. Date for Ladies' Soirée fixed for 25 June. Three invitations for May and June at the disposal of Members of the Council and of the Soirée Committee.
9. Letter read from T.L. Heath regarding provisional grants for the National Physical Laboratory. Full text entered into minutes.
10. Letter from the Principal of Nizam's College at Hyderabad, requesting recommendations for post of Science Professor. Request declined.
11. Letter from Edward Albert Schäfer accepting invitation to be Croonian Lecturer.
