Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Rose Bradford (Secretary); Sir William Crookes (Foreign Secretary); Sir George Darwin; Sir David Gill; John Scott Haldane; Charles Thomas Heycock; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Horace Lamb; Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Hector Munro MacDonald; Dr Frederick Walker Mott; Charles Algernon Parsons; William Henry Perkin; Edward Bagnall Poulton; Lieutenant-Colonel David Prain; Sir Arthur W. Rücker; Sir James Stirling; Frederick Thomas Trouton; William Whitaker; the President, Sir Archibald Geikie, in the Chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed as correct.
2. Title of Edward Albert Schäfer's Croonian Lecture is 'The Functions of the Pituitary Body'.
3. Consideration of Bakerian Lecture 1909 postponed.
4. Recommendations for grants from the Government Grant Committee read for individual Boards and Board members. Recommendations adopted.
5. Application from Alfred George Greenhill to the Government Grant Committee for expenses of the National Sub-Commission of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction. No funds available.
6. Offer of a polar heliostat to the National Laboratory as a deposit on loan.
7. Notice from the Chairman of the International Brain Commission to be forwarded to the Prof. Charles Scott Sherrington of the International Committee.
8. Need for cleaning and restoration of items within the Royal Society's picture collection.
9. Treasurer received £15,000 from Henry Clifton Sorby's bequest and invested it in stocks.
10. Report from the Gassiot Trust Committee on its expenses with a request of a payment to be made to the National Physical Laboratory. Text entered into minutes. Resolved.
11. Nominations for four vacancies of Foreign Members .
12. Santiago Ramón y Cajal, Émil Picard, Hugo Kronecker, and George E. Hale to be proposed for election and next ordinary meeting of the Society.
13. Report from the Catalogue of Scientific Papers Committee entered into minutes and contains list of financial receipts and expenses.
14. Report from the Scientific Relief Committee entered into minutes. Recommendations for grants approved.
15. List of bills for payment for engravings, paper, and printing.
