DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; the Reverend James Booth; Warren De La Rue; Thomas Graham; William Robert Grove; Joseph Dalton Hooker; Thomas Henry Huxley; Henry Bence Jones; Colonel Edward Sabine; William Sharpey; George Gabriel Stokes; William Tite; Charles Wheatstone; the President, William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Resoloutions on the terms of the award of the Copley Medal to Professor Muller, full citation; and the terms of the award of the Rumford Medal to Dr. Neil Arnott, full citation. Resolved that a Committee of reference to be appointed to report on the calculating machine of M. Scheutz, of which a notice had been read to the Royal Society on 16 November, with a list of the committee members. Dr. Dickinson was granted an extension of time for admission into the Fellowship.
