DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Arthur Cayley; James Challis; Charles Darwin; Sir Philip de Malpas Grey Egerton; John Miers; William Allen Miller; William Hallowes Miller; James Paget; John Stenhouse; the Vice-President and Treasurer, Edward Sabine, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Professor Challis made and subscribed to the Declaration in lieu of the Oath as a new Member of Council. Report of the Fairchild Committee, signed by Baden Powell, full text entered into the minutes: statement of the object sand conditions of endowment of the Fairchild Lecture Trust. Notice was given by Colonel Sabine on behalf of the Foreign Secretary, that the question of filling vacancies in the Foreign Members list would be taken into consideration at an early meeting after Easter. The Treasurer reported that he had received £200 bequeathed by Mr. Lawson and it was resolved that this would be invested to augment the proceeds of the Donation Fund. List of bills for payment, for printing, engraving and binding.
