DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie; William Benjamin Carpenter; Arthur Cayley; Charles Darwin; William Allen Miller; James Paget; William Sharpey; John Stenhouse; George Gabriel Stokes; the Treasurer and Vice-President, Edward Sabine, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Archbishop of Dublin appounted to deliver the Fairchild Lecture for the ensuing year. Letter from M. Pasteur acknowledging the award of the Rumford Medal. Letter from the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Art Treasures Exhibition in Manchester, conveying thanks for the loan of paintings and sculptures and includign a list of selected artworks, including the original drawing for a statute of Newton by Roubiliac. Extract of a letter from the President read, stating that there was no doubt of the propriety of paying the balance of the Croonian Lecture Fund to the Poor of Mary-le-Strand, and the Treasurer was authorised to make the payment. The Secretaries reported that stock of the Greenwich Observations had accumulated to an inconvenient amount and that the Society should take up the Astronomer Royal offer to lodge the stock in the Royal Observatory: with a list pubications to be deposited, including Caroline Herschel's Catalogue of Stars. List of President, Officers and Members of Council to be recommended to the Royal Society for election to serve in the ensuing year.
