DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken. The meeting is headed as being 'held at Burlington House', presumably for the first time.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Neil Arnott; William Benjamin Carpenter; Arthur Cayley; William Fairbairn; Arthur Farre; William Robert Grove; Joseph Dalton Hooker; William Allen Miller; William Hallowes Miller; Lyon Playfair; the Reverend Bartholomew Price; General Edward Sabine; William Sharpey; George Gabriel Stokes; John Tyndall; the President, John Wrottesley, 2nd Baron Wrottesley, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Dr. Goldstucker of University College applied for the loan of Sanskrit manuscripts, which were granted. The Geological Museum of Calcutta was placed on the list of institutions to receive Royal Society journals. Letter from the Under Secretary of War requesting the use of rooms in connection with examinations for admissions to the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, granted. List of new members of the Government Grant Committee to replace those elected to Council of the Royal Society. The bookshelves in the Assiatant Secretary's Dining Room will not be required for some time, and Mr. Weld would be permitted to remove them at his own expense, to be replaced when desired by Council. Selection of candidates for the Fellowship was considered and adjourned.
