DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Neil Arnott; Arthur Farre; Edward Frankland; John Peter Gassiot; William Robert Grove; Philip Hardwick; Joseph Dalton Hooker; William Hallowes Miller; John Percy; Lyon Playfair; the Reverend Bartholomew Price; General Edward Sabine; William Sharpey; Archibald Smith; George Gabriel Stokes; Charles Wheatstone; the President, John Wrottesley, 2nd Baron Wrottesley, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer called attention to an injury to the portrait of Sir Isaac Newton while it was being copied for the Viscount Enfield; a committee was formed to enquire into the cause and remedies. Letter from Andrew Holman, executor of the late Lieutenant James Holman, intimating the bequest of his portrait. An application was read from Dr.Robert Lee for permission to copy his papers in the archives, granted. Letter from G.H. Fielding resigning his Fellowship of the Royal Socety, the resignation accepted. Parts 1 and 2 of the index to Philosophical Transactions were granted to Harvard College. Mr. Saunders, Mr. Yates, Mr. Ranald Martin and Mr. Mylne were allowed arrears of the Philosophical Transactions. List of bills for payment, for printing and binding. The selection of candidates for election to the Fellowship was considered and adjourned.
