DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; William Bowman; Benjamin Collins Brodie; Charles Brooke; James Challis; Samuel Hunter Christie; Sir Philip de Malpas Grey Egerton; John Peter Gassiot; William Hallowes Miller; Colonel Edward Sabine; Edward Solly; William Spence; Captain William Henry Smyth; Nathaniel Wallich; the President, William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, in the chair.

The Presidents of the Linnean, Geological, Royal Astronomical and Chemical Societies having been invited to the meeting, Robert Brown, President of the Linnean Society, was also present.

Among matters discussed or noted: the minutes of the last special meeting were read, full text entered into the minutes: Council of the Royal Society having heard reports that ground had been purchased at Kensington Gore for the purpose of accommodating learned societies, presently in Somerset House and elsewhere, express their view that the locality would be unsuitable and inconvenient; but that the societies should be housed together and under one roof. A copy of the minutes to be circulated to the four metropolitan chartered societies.
