DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; James Booth; Benjamin Collins Brodie; Charles Brooke; Samuel Hunter Christie; John Peter Gassiot; Thomas Graham; Joseph Dalton Hooker; William Hopkins; Henry Bence Jones; George Newport; William Sharpey; Captain William Henry Smyth; Nathaniel Wallich; the Treasurer and Vice-President, Edward Sabine, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letters from Charles Babbage and Edward Sabine were read, with the President's reply to Colonel Sabine: the Assistant Secretary was directed to acknowldge Babbage's letter. Letter from the Assistant Secretary of the Statistical Society applying for the publications of the Royal Society: copies of Proceedings granted from the present year. Resolutions on proposals for admission to the Fellowship: the Fellow first named as proposing from personal knowldge should furnish copies of any publication or paper referred to as grounds for admission; and wording to that effect to be appended to each blank certificate. Mr. Newport gave notice that he would move at the next meeting that all papers read to the Society should be reported on to Council within two months and the compliance of referees was requested.
