Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Newport moved that all papers read to the Society to be referred and reported on to Council within two months, with the compliance of the referees specially requested: the motion was seconded, discussed and withdrawn. List of bills for printing and engraving ordered to be paid. Letter from John Russell Hind, 22 Grove Road, St. John's Wood, 29 March 1853, to the Secretary of the Royal Socioety, full text entered into the minutes: explaining the circumstances of his non-attendance for admission to the Royal Society, following his election in June 1851; this he had previously raised with the President, but now knows he ought to have informed the Secretary; resolved to inform Mr. Hind that under Statutes, his election was void, and that Council regrets it has no power to allow his admission. The selection of candidates to be recommendef to the Society for election was discussed and adjourned. |
