DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Frederick Currey; Warren de La Rue; Philip de Malpas Grey-Egerton; John Gwyn Jeffreys; William Hallowes Miller; Admiral George Henry Richards; William Sharpey; Charles William Siemens; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; the President, General Sir Edward Sabine, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts was presented. The Reverend T. Simpson Evans appointed Fairchild Lecturer for the year. Professor Stokes appointed to the Scientific Relief Committee. A grant of £100 from the Scientific Relief Fund was granted to an applicant. The seal of the Royal Society was affixed to the dipomas of Anders Jonas Angstrom and Joseph Antoine Ferdinand Plateau and signed by the President. A donation of 2 guineas was granted to the Parochial Schools of Mablethorpe. Volume 4 and some sheets of volume 5 of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers were laid on the table.
