Letter from Vernon Lushington, Admiralty, 22 August 1872, to William Sharpey, Secretary of the Royal Society, Burlington House, full text entered into the minutes: HMS Challenger is intended to leave on its voyage by the end of November and the Lords of the Admiralty request the precise objects of research and areas of the ocean for investigation, in order to frame instructions for the officer in command. Report of the Circumnavigation Committee on the scientific research of HMS Challenger, full text entered into the minutes: on the ocean areas of the globe for particular investigation, providing a route for the expediton, with scentific research objectives grouped under headings. 1.
