Commencing with a list of Council members present: Frederick Currey; Warren de La Rue; Sir Philip de Malpas Grey-Egerton; William Henry Flower; William Huggins; John Gwyn Jeffreys; John Marshall; Augustus Matthiessen; William Allen Miller; William Hallowes Miller; Captain George Henry Richards; William Sharpey; Charles William Siemens; John Simon; Archibald Smith; Henry John Stephen Smith; George Gabriel Stokes; John Tyndall; Alexander William Williamson; the President, General Sir Edward Sabine, in the chair, followed by William Allen Miller, Treasurer and Vice-President, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Application from William Saville Kent of the British Museum for a Donation Fund grant in aid of zoological dredging in a private yacht off the coast of Spain and Portugal, £50 granted. Minutes of the Scientific Relief Committee read and two grants for £25 and £50 for applicants were approved. The Treasurer was empowered to invest £138 13s. of the balance of the Scientific Relief Fund in three percents. List of candidates for Fellowship of the Royal Society, to be recommended to the Annual Meeting on 2 June. List of candidates for Foreign Membership, from which two names might be nominated at a future meeting of Council for election. Lists of candidates for the award of Royal Society Medals. List of bills for payment, for printing, colouring lithographs and for gas for lighting.
