DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Major-General John Theophilus Boileau; Warren De La Rue; Captain Frederick John Owen Evans; Edward Frankland; Albert Gunther; Thomas Henry Huxley; Joseph Norman Lockyer; Reverend Robert Main; William Pole; Reverend Bartholomew Price; William Spottiswoode; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; the President, Joseph Dalton Hooker, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Mr. Bentham appointed to the Scientific Relief Committee in place of Mr. Currey. Report of the Library and Catalogue Committee, with notes on progress and recommendations, including on the salary of Alfred White, applications for printing tenders, excessive corrections to papers in the Society's journals, and grants of journals. The President to communicate with Lord Sandon, to have the £1,000 Government Grant replaced on the Treasury estimates, as before. The Treasurer reported that Mr. Thomas Eve of Theddlethorpe had applied for tenancy of the Society's estate at Mablethorpe, with references: steps to be taken to lease the estate to Mr. Eve. Leave granted to Mr. Crookes to have a woodblock from his paper on the radiometer: and for Mr. A. Doran to copy his own paper in the archives. Report of the Kew Committee ordered to be printed in Proceedings.
