DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Major-General John Theophilus Boileau; Warren De La Rue; Peter Martin Duncan; Willam Henry Flower; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; Francis Galton; John Russell Hind; Thomas Henry Huxley; Sir George Henry Richards; Henry Clfton Sorby; William Spottiswoode; Balfour Stewart; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; the President, Joseph Dalton Hooker, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Death of Robert Swinhoe. List of President, Officers and Members of Council to be recommended to serve as Council for the ensuing year; the list to be sent to the public press by the Assistant Secretary. Nomination of auditors fo rthe Treasurer's accounts. Adjudication of Royal Society Medals: the Copley Medal awarded to Professor James Dwight Dana, Royal Medals to Frederick Augustus Abel and to Professor Oswald Heeer; the Davy Medal awarded to Robert Wilhelm Bunsen and Gustav Robert Kirchhoff; resolved for the latter that a gold medal not exceeding £30 be struck in duplicate, a copy given to each medallist, with names inscribed in alphabetical order. Brian H. Hodgson and Dr. McIntosh granted extensions for admission to the Fellowship. List of salaries and wages to be paid to Officers and staff of the Royal Society. Bill to be paid for firewood and brushes.
