Commencing with a list of Council members present: Frederick Augustus Abel; William Bowman; William Carruthers; Major-General Henry Clerk; William Crookes; John Evans (Treasurer); Augustus George Vernon Harcourt; Thomas Henry Huxley; Sir Henry Lefroy; Charles William Siemens; John Simon; George Gabriel Stokes; Allen Thomson; Alexander William Williamson; the President, William Spottiswoode, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Letter announcing the gift of a Gedenkboek and centenary medal from the Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences. Application from J.E.H. Gordon for electrotypes from Philosophical Transactions and Proceedings, granted in part. Letter from H.B. Wheatley resigning as Clerk, accepted, and a committee formed to fill the vacancy at a salary of not more than £150 per annum. List of candidates for election to the Fellowship selected by ballot to be recommended at the Annual Meeting. List of bills for payment, for books and paper.
