Commencing with a list of Council members present: George Busk; Arthur Cayley; Major-General Henry Clerk; Edwin Dunkin; John Evans (Treasurer); Augustus George Vernon Harcourt; John Whitaker Hulke; Thomas Henry Huxley; Sir Henry Lefroy; William Newmarch; Alfred Newton; William Odling; Sir James Paget; William Henry Perkin; Charles William Siemens; John Simon; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; the President, William Spottiswoode, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Deaths of Thomas Bell, Lord Hampton, William Henry Chicheley Plowden, and Dr. William Sharpey. Selection of candidates for election to the Fellowship was discussed and adjourned.
