Commencing with a list of Council members present: George Busk; Arthur Cayley; Major-General Henry Clerk; Edwin Dunkin; John Evans (Treasurer); Augustus George Vernon Harcourt; Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker; John Whitaker Hulke; Thomas Henry Huxley; Sir Henry Lefroy; William Newmarch; Alfred Newton; William Odling; Sir James Paget; William Henry Perkin; Charles William Siemens; John Simon; George Gabriel Stokes; John Tyndall; Alexander William Williamson; the President, William Spottiswoode, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Leave was granted to Lord Rosse for the return of the large diagrams of mountings of his 3-foot equatorial telescope and to Taylor and Francis for the loan of blocks and plates for the third volume of Michael Faraday's Experimental Researches. Treasurer presented two land conveyances at Acton and one surrender of property. List of candidates for election to the Fellowship to be presented at the Annual Meeting. Lists of candidates for the Copley Medal, the Rumford Medal, Royal Medals and for the Davy Medal. Letter from Professor Cayley concerning the Catalogue of Scientific Paper referred to the Library Committee. List of bills for payment, for printing, lithography, installation of the gas engine by Crossley Brothers and for other expenses.
