Commencing with a list of Council members present: George Busk; Major-General Henry Clerk; Edwin Dunkin; John Evans (Treasurer); Augustus George Vernon Harcourt; Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker; John Whitaker Hulke;Thomas Henry Huxley; Sir Henry Lefroy; Alfred Newton; Sir James Paget; William Henry Perkin; Charles William Siemens; John Simon; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; the President, William Spottiswoode, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Deaths of David Thomas Ansted, Professor William Hallowes Miller and Dr. Alfred Swaine Taylor. Professor Bonney to b be requested to write an obituary notice for Professor Miller. Annual report of the Meteorological Council presented. Letter from R.R.W. Lingen, Treasury Chambers, Whitehall, 16 June 1880, to the President, the Royal Society, London, full text entered into the minutes: a considerable portion of the results of the Challenger Exoedition were ready for publication and it would be of assistance to have a small committee for advice on the form and order of publication; an immediate question is whether authors' work should be published separately or collected; a committee was appointed for the purpose. The Officers empowered to respond in case of an answer being received from the Meteorological Council respecting the Trevandrum Observations. Letter from Frederick Joseph Bramwell, 37 Great George Street, Westminster, 3 June 1880, to William Spottiswoode, Royal Society, Burlington House, full text entered into the minutes: resolutions from City and Guilds of London, noting the Royal Society President and others beign made ex-officio Governors and requesting co-operation; acceded to, with the immediate predecessor of the President being deputed to act in the event of the President's absence. Letter from James Risdon Bennett and William MaCormac, Royal College of Physicians, Pall Mall East, 8 June 1880, to President and Council of the Royal Society, full text entered into the minutes: requesting room use for the 7th International Medical Congress to be held in London in August; resolved that the Society's Meeting Room, Ante-Room and Secretaries' Room be made available. Letter from Few and Company, on a dely to the sale of Acton land, as being possibly in breach of the Charitable Trusts Acts, the President to write to the Secretary of State for the Home Department. Letter from the Marquise Colbert Chabanais, offreing three volumes of Laplace's works, accepted with thanks. Recommendations of the Library Committee on journals exchanges. List of proposed candidates for the award of Royal Society Medals, with proposers and seconders. Application from the Royal College of Physicians for numbers of Philosophical Transactions. Leave granted for electrotypes of illustrations and the use of blocks. Application from Messrs. Lawes and Gilbert for 150 separate and additional copies of their paper, granted. Extension of time for admission into the Felowship granted to H.F. Blanford and Professor McCoy. All books to be returned to the Library by 31 July and none given out in August. Leave of absence granted to the Assitant Secretary. Treasrer authorised to pay bill during recess. List of bills for payment, for printing, lithograpy and for other expenses.
