Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Grylls Adams; Thomas Lauder Brunton; Heinrich Debus; John Evans (Treasurer); Michael Foster; Francis Galton; Olaus Henrici; Edwin Ray Lankester; Joseph Lister; Joseph Prestwich; Osborne Reynolds; Henry Enfield Roscoe; Osbert Salvin; George Gabriel Stokes; Edward James Stone; Alexander William Williamson; the President, Thomas Henry Huxley, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Death of Edmund Potter. List of President, Officers and Members of Council recommended to Fellows for election and service during the ensuing year: the Assistant Secretary to communicate the list to the public papers. Nomination of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Adjudication of Royal Society medals: the Copley Medal awarded to Professor Sir William Thomson; a Royal Medal awarded to Professor T.A. Hirst; a Royal Medals awarded to Professor J.S. Burdon-Sanderson; the Davy Medal awarded to Marcellin Bertholet and to Professor Julius Thomsen; and that a gold medal not exceeding £30 value to be struck for each medallist. Letter from Mr. R.H. Scott on behalf of the Executors of Sir Edward Sabine, stating that the late Lady Sabine had desired that the gold Royal Medal and Lalande Medal should be presented to the Royal Society to be empoloyed for the Scientific Relief Fund: the value of the Lalande Medal to be paid to the Scientific Relief Fund and the medal preserved by the Society. Report of the Armagh Committee on the Treasury's question was read and the Officers were requested to prepare a letter to the Treasury. On the proposal of Mr. J.. Ball, the number of Scientific Relief Committee was increased from five to seven, with three being the quorum. List of bills for payment, for printing, lithography and for other expenses. List of salaries and wages for Officers and staff.
