Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Grylls Adams; John Ball; Thomas Lauder Brunton; John Evans (Treasurer); Michael Foster; Joseph Prestwich; Osborne Reynolds; Osbert Salvin; Warington Wilkinson Smyth; Alexander William Williamson; the President, Thomas Henry Huxley, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Deaths of John Eliot Howard and Sir William Siemens. Report of the Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Report from the Kew Committee was presented and ordered to be printed in the Proceedings. Appointments to the Scientific Relief Committee in pursuance of the Council resolution at the last meeting. Draft letter on the Armagh Committee report read and directed to be forwarded to the Treasury.
