Commencing with a list of Council members present: Captain William de Wiveleslie Abney; William Thomas Blanford; Alexander Crum Brown; George Carey Foster; Michael Foster; Sir Archibald Geikie; James Whitbread Lee Glaisher; Frederick Ducane Godman; John Hopkinson; George Downing Liveing; Joseph Norman Lockyer; Arthur Milnes Marshall; Philip Henry Pye-Smith; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; William Chandler Roberts-Austen; Edward Albert Schafer; Sir George Gabriel Stokes; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; General James Thomas Walker; the President, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Alexander Crum Brown subscribed to the declation in lieu of the oath. Deaths of Sir William Bowman and Sir Francis Charles Knowles. Report of the Colour-Vision Committee received and forwarded to the Board of Trade. Treasurer reported joining with other Societies interested in the Stevenson Bequest in a High Court application. Offer of £80 for electrical plant received from Messrs Drake & Gorham, further information to be sought. Candidates for Fellowship considered and adjourned. Bill for engraving.
