DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Warren De La Rue; Robert Etheridge; George Carey Foster; Michael Foster; Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker; Henry Nottidge Moseley; Hugo Muller; Andrew Noble; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; John Scott Burdon Sanderson; George Gabriel Stokes; Lieutenant-General Richard Strachey; the Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President [Thomas Henry Huxley] in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: the deaths of Thomas Andrews and William Benjamin Carpenter. A letter from Warren de la Rue (representing the Kew Committee) nominating Lieutenant-General J. T. Walker as a committee member, approved by Council. A letter from W. G. Armstrong, received by the President, offering £5,000 to be used for a fund for the remission of fees. Andrew Noble stating he had been authorised to offer £7,000 on Armstrong's behalf if matched by subscription and added to the Scientific Relief Fund, the offer accepted by Council. A report by the Kew Committee ordered to be printed in Proceedings. Auditors' report. George Carey Foster appointed to the Scientific Relief Committee. J. F. Bullar granted permission to have electrotypes of woodcuts from his paper.
