Commencing with a list of Council members present: Robert Bellamy Clifton; James Dewar; William Henry Flower; Michael Foster; Archibald Geikie; Joseph Dalton Hooker; Thomas Henry Huxley; Sir Astley Cooper Key; Joseph Norman Lockyer; Henry Nottidge Moseley; Bartholomew Price; Charles Pritchard; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; William James Russell; John Scott Burdon Sanderson; Arthur Schuster; the Treasurer [John Evans]; General James Thomas Walker; Alexander William Williamson; the President, George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Decease of James Apjohn. A letter from the Colonial Office enclosing a despatch from the Governor of the Windward Islands referred to the Eclipse Committee. Application by Mrs. F. B. Harrison to consult the archives. Extension of time for admission to the Fellowship granted to William Colenso and Henry Chamberlaine Russell. Election of Fellows to take place on 9 June. £20 from the Scientific Relief Fund to be placed in the hands of Professor Judd for an applicant recommended by the President of the Geological Society. £1,000 of stock to be purchased for the Scientific Relief Fund. Treasurer authorised to advance funds to the Eclipse Committee. Report of the Electric Lighting Committee read and adopted. Letter from the Royal Society of Victoria referred to a newly-formed committee for the purpose. Lists of suggested names for the award of Royal Society medals. Bills for printing and other services.
