Commencing with a list of Council members present: Robert Bellamy Clifton; George Howard Darwin; William Turner Thiselton Dyer; David Ferrier; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; Arthur Gamgee; Archibald Geikie; Joseph Henry Gilbert; John Hopkinson; Joseph Norman Lockyer; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir George Henry Richards; Philip Lutley Sclater; The Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President, George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. List of Fellows recommended for election to Council, with President and Officers, the list to be communicated to the public papers. Adjudication of Royal Society medals: Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker (Copley Medal), Henry Nottidge Moseley (Royal Medal), Colonel A. R. Clarke (Royal Medal), John A. R. Newlands (Davy Medal). Report of the Government Grant Committee read, confirmation and list of grants awarded by Sub-committees A-C and D. Recommendation that £25 from the Donation Fund be awarded to Professor T. Rupert Jones for illustrations to his work on fossil Ostracoda. The mode of administration of the Government Grant referred to a committee set up for that purpose. The President's resignation from the Metereological Council referred to a committee. The Society of Antiquaries to be supplied with electric lighting, if they install plant of equal power to the Royal Society's and pay half of the running costs. Auditors nominated. Letter from the Foreign Office noting the discovery of infusorial earth near Stavenger. N. M. Lund granted permision to photograph and paint a copy of the Society's portraiit of Tycho Brahe. Leave granted to Norman Lockyer to have electrotypes made. Letter from Mr. Cope Whitehouse on the origins of 'Fingal's Cave', the Society to take no action in the matter. Bills for printing, redecorating, conversazione, legal matters and other services. Payments of salaries, wages and pensions to Officers and staff.
