Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Bowman Brady; Arthur Cayley; William Turner Thiselton Dyer; David Ferrier; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; Arthur Gamgee; Joseph Henry Gilbert; John Wesley Judd; Herbert McLeod; William Pole; William Henry Preece; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir George Henry Richards; Arthur William Rucker; Bernhard Samuelson; The Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President, George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Deaths of T. B. Curling, Admiral Sir Cooper Key, and Vice-Admiral Spratt. £50 to be placed with Professor Henrici for an applicant to the Scientific Relief Fund approved by the President. £20 from the Donation Fund to Professor Schafer to assist in research into the action of bile, by Dr. Martin and Dr. Dawson Williams. Reports of the referees of W. K. Parker and T. Rupert Jones, these to be laid before the Government Grant Committee. A letter from Dr. J. F. Main offering his telescope and its piers at St. Moritz to the Royal Society, referred to the Mountain Observatory Committee. Repeal of Statute XI Section 2, with a redrafted version and amendment to Chapter XIII Section 7. Letter from J. N. Langley asking that Professor Yeo's name is added to the list of candidates for Fellowship, the Secretary directed to reply that the request could not be acceded to, but that instructions would be modified in response. Draft of Statutes relating to corresponding members reproduced as full text in the minutes, futher consideration postponed. A selection of candidates for Foreign Membership listed, to be reduced to four names for ballot. Investment of Society funds to be referred to a committee formed for that purpose. Letter of thanks from Joseph Thomson, stating that it was not necessary to write to the Foreign Office concerning his Morocco expedition. Leave granted to the Solar Physics Committee to borrow Ely sun-pictures. Electrotypes granted to the Editor of 'La Lumiere Electrique'. Estimate from Drake and Gorham for lighting the Library recesses accepted. Bills for printing and other services.
