Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Bowman Brady; William Turner Thiselton Dyer; David Ferrier; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; Arthur Gamgee; Joseph Henry Gilbert; John Wesley Judd; Herbert McLeod; William Pole; William Henry Preece; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir George Henry Richards; Arthur William Rucker; Bernhard Samuelson; The Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President, George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. The Society's seal affixed to a document on the conversion of annuities and stock. Seal affixed to a form of consent in the conversion of government funds belonging to the Stevenson estate. List of recipients of Government Grants who had not reported on their researches by 31 March. William Huggins and J. J. Thomson appointed to the Government Grant Committee. Reappointment of the Lawes Agricultural Trust Committee. Vote of thanks to Edward Stanhope for the presentation of documents formerly belonging to Sir Joseph Banks. Selection of candidates for Fellowship adjourned until the next meeting. Leave for electrotypes of illustrations granted to Percy Frankland. Bills for printing engraving and for the Hanset engine.
