DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Sir William Bowman; Henry Bowman Brady; William Turner Thiselton Dyer; David Ferrier; Michael Foster; Joseph Henry Gilbert; John Wesley Judd; Herbert McLeod; William Henry Preece; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir George Richards; Lawrence Parsons, 4th Earl of Rosse; Arthur William Rucker; Alexander William Williamson; The Treasurer [John Evans] in the chair; followed by the President, George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Publication of the Challenger Report Zoology, vols. 23-25. £50 from the Scientific Relief Fund to be placed with Francis Galton for an applicant. £30 placed with Dr. Woodward for the same purpose. Report of the Government Grant Administration Committee, with regulations drawn up, discussed and approved: entered as full text into the minutes and the Secretaries asked to communicate these to the Treasury. Secretaries asked what arrangements might be made to inform applicants as to what Grant apparatus is available. Draft statutes on Corresponding Members discussed and withdrawn. Leave granted to Professor Seeley to copy a paper. Estimates from Dent and Company for timepieces accepted. Treasurer authorised to spend £60 on cleaning paintings during the recess. Bills for printing, lithography and other services.
