Commencing with a list of Council members present: Sir Henry Bowman; Michael Foster; John Wesley Judd; Herbert McLeod; William Pole; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir George Richards; Lawrence Parsons, 4th Earl of Rosse; Arthur William Rucker; The Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President, George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Death of Edward Headlam Greenhow. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Letters of thanks from recipients of Royal Society medals. Report of the Kew Committee ordered to be printed in Proceedings. Dr. Sclater appointed to the Scientific Relief Committee. Bills for engraving and W. Dyer for cleaning of paintings.
