Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; Henry Bowman Brady; Charles Baron Clarke; Michael Foster; William Huggins; John Whitaker Hulke; John Wesley Judd; Edward Emanuel Klein; Edwin Ray Lankester; Herbert McLeod; Sir James Paget; William Pole; William Henry Preece; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe; Edward John Routh; Arthur Rucker; The Treasurer [John Evans]; William James Lloyd Wharton; Alexander William Williamson; the President, Sir George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Adjudication of Royal Society medals: Rev. Dr. George Salmon (Copley Medal); Walter Holbrook Gaskell (Royal Medal); Thomas Edward Thorpe (Royal Medal); William Henry Perkin (Davy Medal). Nominations of Fellows, President and Officers to form a new Council, to be recommended at the Anniversary Meeting, the list to be communicated to the press. Nomination of auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Foreign Members selected for election at the next Ordinary Meeting: Professors Stanislau Cannizzaro, A. Chauveau and Henry A. Rowland. The condition of the Thylacopardus skull from Australia showed evidence of the package having been opened in transit, the matter to be reported to the Post Office. Copies of the monograph on horny sponges to be presented to members of the committee for its publication and to the Geological Society. £15 from the Donation Fund awarded to E. A. Schafer to assist Messrs. Bradford and Dean in research on vasomotor nerves. Letter from Mr. Rodwell requesting the use of expanion apparatrus on behalf of Professor E. Divers of Tokyo, referred to Government Grant Board B. Sum advanced to Mr. Collings for work on the horny sponges monograph. Invitation to attend anniversary celebration of the Naturforschende Gesellschaft of Emden. List of salaries, wages and pensions for Officers and staff of the Royal Society.
