Description	Printed minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken. Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; William Edward Ayrton; William Henry Mahoney Christie; Charles Baron Clarke; William Boyd Dawkins; Michael Foster; Archibald Geikie; Edward Emanuel Klein; Edwin Ray Lankester; Hugo Muller; Alfred Newton; Andrew Noble; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe; Edward John Routh; Sir William Scovell Savory; Joseph John Thomson; The Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; Sir Charles William Wilson; the President, Sir George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair. Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Deaths of Sir William Withey Gull, Sir Robert Kane, Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot, and Professor Otto August Rosenberger. New Council member W. H. M. Christie subscribed to the declaration in lieu of the oath. On the question of teaching of science in elementary schools, no action to be taken. Letter from R. Brudenell Carter suggesting an investigation into colour-blindness; the President to inform the Board of Trade that Council would be prepared to appoint a committee on the subject, if Government required it. Letter from the Society of Authors requesting a memorial to Government on the Pension List and men of science; a committee appointed to report on the subject. The Bakerian Lecure to be delivered by Professor Schuster. Treasurer's proposal for the purchase of a medals cabinet approved, not to exceed £15. Treasurer authorised to pay a Fellow's annual contribution from the Scientific Relief Fund. Payments from the Scientific Relief Fund to be made: two sums of £100 to be placed with Michael Foster and Dr. Russell for recommended applicants. Report of the Soiree Committee, suggesting dates for the two annual events with £120 for expenses, approved. Report of the Library Committee; 16,000 slips completed for the Catalogue of Scientific Papers and £200 recommended for the continuation of the work; power to dispose of books to leading institutions and public libraries; recommendations on institutions to receive Royal Society publications; the report adopted. Report of the Darwin Fund Committee with six recommendations on the use of funds, including the award of a bronze medal. Letter from the Meteorological Office deferred. Professor Alexander Macalister re-nominated to the Government Grant Committee. Leave granted to copy papers and to have electrotypes of illustrations. Bills for binding and other services.
