Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Wivesley Abney; William Henry Mahoney Christie; George Howard Darwin; Warren De La Rue; Sir Frederick John Owen Evans; William Henry Flower; George Carey Foster; Michael Foster; Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker; Henry Nottidge Moseley; Hugo Muller; Andrew Noble; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; John Scott Burdon Sanderson; George Gabriel Stokes; Lieutenant-General Richard Strachey; the Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President [Thomas Henry Huxley] in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: announcement of the deceases of Fellows. The receipt of £100 from Mr. James Budgett for the publication of Professor William Kitchen Parker's researches. Few and Company keeping watch on the Warburton case. Summonses for Government Grant Committees. Statute changes put to the ballot and passed, with an amended draft on Library use. Candidates for Fellowship considered and adjourned. Renovation of the Assistant Secretary's apartments. Bills for services.
