Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; William Boyd Dawkins; Michael Foster; Archibald Geikie; Edward Emanuel Klein; Hugo Muller; Andrew Noble; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir William Scovell Savory; Joseph John Thomson; The Treasurer [John Evans]; Alexander William Williamson; the President, Sir George Gabriel Stokes, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Death of Sir John Francis Davis. Letter read from Sir Henry Ponsonby, giving the Queen's approval for the allocation of Royal Medals. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Report of the Kew Committee ordered to be printed in Proceedings. Professor Vines appointed a member of the Scientific Relief Committee. The Treasurer to be absent from England for two months, the Senior Secretary to sign cheques in his absence. The Society's seal affixed to the deed of reconveyance of Mr. Long's mortgage.
