Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Edward Ayrton; William Henry Mahoney Christie; William Boyd Dawkins; Archibald Geikie; James Whitbread Lee Glaisher; Hugo Muller; Alfred Newton; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Sir William Roberts; William Chandler Roberts-Austen; Edward Albert Schafer; Sir George Gabriel Stokes; General Richard Strachey; Joseph John Thomson; Thomas Edward Thorpe; The Treasurer, Sir John Evans; Sir William Turner; Sydney Howard Vines; General James Thomas Walker; the President, Sir William Thomson, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Letter from Few & Company to Herbert Rix, 8 April 1891, entered in full into the minutes; on arrangements for the Stevenson Bequest, the seal of the Society affixed to a power of attorney. List of candidates for Fellowship of the Society to be recommended to the Annual Meeting, the list to be communicated to The Times and to Nature. Increase in membership of the Scientific Relief Committee, with Professors Bonney and Rucker, and Dr. Hugo Muller added to the committee. £200 from the Society's funds authorised for an extension to the Kew Committee for building extension. Letter from Dr. Duncan on his retirement from the governing body of Charterhouse School, Mr Hulke to be the new representative. £20 from the Donation Fund to Dr. Sclater, to enable Captain Swayne to procure specimens of African antelope; £50 to Dr. Woodward to aid Dr Forsyth-Major in researches into fossil mammalia. Consideration of report of the Statutes Committee and circular letter resumed, and adjourned. Letter of thanks from Professor Haswell on behalf of the Trustees of the Sydney Biological Station. Letter inviting attendance at the Second International Ornithological Congress, Budapest. Leave granted to Francis Galton for electrotypes of his illustrations on fingerprints and for Dr. de Haan to have Oldenburg letter copies. Bills for printing, lithography and lighting.
