Commencing with a list of Council members present: Captain William de Wiveleslie Abney; William Thomas Blanford; George Carey Foster; Michael Foster; Sir Archibald Geikie; Frederick Ducane Godman; Joseph Norman Lockyer; William Davidson Niven; William Henry Perkin; Bartholomew Price; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; the President, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, in the chair.

The texts of three congratulatory addresses on the marriage of the Duke of York to to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, entered in full into the minutes as the only business discussed. Each from Lord Kelvin, President of the Royal Society, to: H.M. Queen Victoria; H.R.H. Edward, the Prince of Wales; and to H.R.H. Prince George, Duke of York.
