Commencing with a list of Council members present: Captain William de Wiveleslie Abney; Isaac Bayley Balfour; William Thomas Blanford; Michael Foster; Richard Tetley Glazebrook; Frederick Ducane Godman; Joseph Norman Lockyer; William Davidson Niven; William Henry Perkin; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Adam Sedgwick; William Augustus Tilden; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; the President, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last two meetings read and approved. Letter from the Foreign Office with details of the requirements of the Public Library of Alexandria; Philosophical Transactions and Proceedings to be presented. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to a congratulatory addresses to Sir John Lawes and to Dr. Gilbert on the Rothamsted jubilee. Application from Mr. Irvine to Government Grant Board D declined. £20 from the Donation Fund to Dr. A. Harden and Dr. Dyson for research on the combination of chlorine and other gases under the action of light. Sums of £100 from the Scientific Relief Fund to be placed with both Captain Abney and Professor B. Price for the benefit of applicants. Report of the Catalogue Committee recommending the recruitment of an additional revisor at £70 and one ot more copyists, adopted. Report of the Library Committee on the disposal of journals and text-books, and grants of journal exchanges. Report of the House Committee proposing building alterations, estimates from Mr. Arthur Keen; with £60 for cleaning and painting of the basement; proposals adopted including an investigation of the joining of the Library with the Geological Society's rooms. Treasurer authorised to pay the annual contribution of a Fellow from the Scientific Relief Fund. Application from the Director of the Liverpool Observatory for parts of the Philosophical Transactions, granted. Leave granted to Messrs. Cunningham and MacMunn to copy the rejected part of their paper on fish skin colouration. Leave granted for electrotypes of illustrations. Full text of a letter from Michael Foster, to Lord Kelvin, entered into the minutes, on his disatisfaction with the publication of papers and the conduct of ordinary meetings, suggesting courses of action. Letter signed by seventeen Fellows, July 1893, to Lord Kelvin, full text entered in the minutes: on the extension of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers and international co-operation, consideration deferred, but the letter printed and circulated among members of Council. Adam Sedgwick gave notice of his intention to raise the mannner of selecting cadidates for the Fellowship at the next meeting. Extension of time for admission into the Fellowship granted to Oliver Heaviside. Treasurer authorised to pay bills during the recess and to make Scientific Relief Fund payments. Library books to be returned by 31 July. Leave of absence granted to the Assistant Secretary. Bills for fire insurance and lithography.
