Commencing with a list of Council members present: Andrew Ainslie Common; Andrew Russell Forsyth; Michael Foster; Sir John Kirk; Sir Joseph Lister; Oliver Joseph Lodge; William Henry Perkin; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Thomas Edward Thorpe; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; the President, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Death of Colonel Robert Young Armstrong. Letter from Sir Henry Ponsonby reporting the Queen's approval of Royal Medal awards. Letters of thanks from medallists. Report of the auditors of Treasurer's accounts. £30 from the Scientific Relief Fund placed with Mr. Markham, £100 with Professor Tilden and £100 with Professor Bonney, for the benefit of applicants. Treasurer's report on sale of consols of stock. Third report of the Water Research Committee presented and ordered to be printed in Proceedings, with copies sent to London County Council. Leave granted for electrotype copies.
