Commencing with a list of Council members present: Andrew Ainslie Common; William Crookes; Andrew Russell Forsyth; Michael Foster; Sir John Kirk; Horace Lamb; Edwin Ray Lankester; Alexander Macalister; John Henry Poynting; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Arthur William Rucker; Osbert Salvin; Thomas Edward Thorpe; Sir William Henry White; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last two meetings read and approved. Death of Henry Austin Bruce, Lord Aberdare. Letter from Sir Courtnay Boyle, Secretary of the Board of Trade, requesting Fellows to confer with the Electrical Advisor on deposits on the electrical mains, Rayleigh, Thorpe and Crookes nominated. Treasurer authorised to recruit an additional hall servant. £60 from the Donation Fund to Professor Roy for the construction of a calorimeter for physiology. Letter from Dr. Sherrington in thanks for the use of diagrams. Leave granted for electrotypes. Letter from Professor Shafer relating to publication in the Proceedings. Report of the Procedure Committee resumed, with votes on the creation of Sectional Committees, their subject areas and membership. Standing orders for the conduct of Ordinary Meetings amended and entered as full text in the minutes, with further consideration deferred.
