Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas George Bonney; Andrew Ainslie Common; William Crookes; Francis Darwin; Andrew Russell Forsyth; Michael Foster; Sir Douglas Galton; Sir John Kirk; Horace Lamb; Edwin Ray Lankester; Sir Joseph Lister; John Henry Poynting; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Arthur William Rucker; Osbert Salvin; Thomas Edward Thorpe; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; the President, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the House and Soiree Committee on the Anniversary Dinner arrangements, approved. Resolution of the Committee of Papers on a £250 grant from the Publication Fund to Professor Rucker and Thorpe for 'A mangnetic survey of the British Isles...1891', agreed. Request from a committee of the British Association that the Royal Society organise a committee to supervise the Expedition for Boring a Coral Reef, the expenses for which had been reduced to £800; committee members nominated and an application to be made to the Government Grant Committee for £800 from the Reserve Fund. Adjudication of medals, General Strachey's name withdrawn, further consideration adjourned. Nomination of Fellows for election to Council with a list of retiring members, proceedings adjourned. Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts nominated. President's report on attendance at the centenary of the Institut de France. Letter received from Madame Pasteur in response to the Society's letter of condolence to her. Report of the Meteorological Committee, to be forwarded to H.M. Treasury. Leave granted to the Provisional Committee of the Huxley Memorial to use the Society's rooms. Leave granted to Professor Judd to photograph the bust of Charles Lyell for a new edition of 'Elements of geology'. Bills for printing, engraving, books and other expenses.
