Commencing with a list of Council members present: Lazarus Fletcher; Edward Frankland; Walter Holbrook Gaskell; William Huggins; Alexander Blackie William Kennedy; Horace Lamb; Edwin Ray Lankester; Charles Lapworth; Major Percy Alexander MacMahon; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Osbert Salvin; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; Harry Marshall Ward; Admiral William James Lloyd Wharton; the President, Sir Joseph Lister, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Death of Hugh Culling Eardley Childers. Address of condolence to the Queen on the death of H.R.H. Prince Henry of Battenberg, full text entered into the minutes. Address of condolence to the Royal Academy, on the death of their President, Lord Leighton, full text entered into the minutes; representatives of the Society for the funeral of Lord Leighton appointed. Letter from the Foreign Office stating that representatives at Stockholm and Tokyo would endeavour to assist the eclipse expeditions. Letter from the Foreign Office forwarding a communication from the Hague, referred to the International Catalogue Committee. Report from the Government Grant Management Committee stating that existing regulations were sufficient, being recently revised. Letter from H. B. Dixon regarding his position of Government Grant Board C. Sectional Committee for Biology listed and appointed. Report of the Catalogue Committee recommending increases in salaries for Misses Chambers, Calderon, Earthy, Jacobs and Turner, with a note on the presentation of copies of volume 11. Dr. A. D. Waller appointed Croonian Lecturer, on the 'isolated nerve'. Mr. Harrison, the new Assistant Secretary to provide security for £1,000 and the bond for the retiring member of staff, Herbert Rix, be returned to him. Letter from the Imperiale Russe de Geographie annoncing their centenary read. Drawings from his paper on Lichenopora to be returned to Mr. S. F. Harmer. Letters from Professor Sylvester to the late Professor Cayley presented to the Society to be preserved in the Library. A further consignment of Trevandrum Observations received for distribution. Letters of thanks from new Foreign members tabled. Leave granted for electrotypes and for the return of original illustrations to E. A. Minchin. Bills for printing and other expenses.
