Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Crookes; Sir Joseph Fayrer; Lazarus Fletcher; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; Walter Holbrook Gaskell; William Huggins; William Thomson, Lord Kelvin; Alexander Blackie William Kennedy; Horace Lamb; Edwin Ray Lankester; Charles Lapworth; Major Percy Alexander MacMahon; John Henry Poynting; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Arthur William Rucker; Osbert Salvin; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; Harry Marshall Ward; Admiral William James Lloyd Wharton; the President, Sir Joseph Lister, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Letter from Mr. James Bateman withdrawing from the Royal Society. List of candidates for election to the Fellowship selected by ballot to be recommended at the Annual Meeting, the list to be communicated to The Times and to Nature. Letter from the Secretary of the Linnean Society requesting grant aid for the publication of a paper by the late John Ball on Alpine flora, referred to the Sectional Committee on Botany; an application for publication by Mr. R. H. F. Rippon declined. Report of the Scientific Relief Committee recommending the grant of £50 to Mr. Common for the benefit of an applicant and that the Entomological Society and the Mathematical and Phsyical Societies be added to the list of organisations able to recommend cases to the Committee; approved, with a decision of the Mathematical and Physical Societies deferred. International Catalogue Committee's suggestion of a Conference dinner to be organised, approved, with recommendations from Council on Fellows to represent the Society at the Conference. Application from the Galleries Committee of the Corporation of Glasgow for the loan of photographs, approved. Application from the Science and Art Department for the loan of furniture to the Bethnal Green Museum, approved, with the exception of the President's chair. Bills for printing, binding and other expenses.
